We also run a few choirs! Get in touch if you’d like to join us for a sing:
Bristol Allsorts Choir – run by Sarah Moody
It’s a choir with fun and community at its heart. We don’t take ourselves seriously, we laugh a lot and enjoy each other’s company. We perform too and sometimes we go to the pub or to each other’s parties and events. We’re really happy when someone comes to join us. Everyone is welcome!
We sing a wide range of songs, a mixture of things that choir members would like to try, some of Sarah’s compositions, blues, folk, jazzy, world music songs. We are also learning a Slovakian pop song because we have Zac Hubackova in our choir and so we’re learning one of his songs, Viem.
We meet every Wednesday during term time, 7.30 – 9pm, at The Travelling Light Theatre Space, 43 Ducie Rd, Bristol, Avon BS5 0AX.
Folk House Choir – run by Nonny Tabbush
A friendly choir based in the heart of Bristol. We learn songs by ear, so there’s no need to read music. We don’t hold auditions – come along and have a go. The choir will cover a wide variety of folk songs, as well as some world and contemporary music. This choir is happy and fun loving, our aim is to create a sense of community and a love of singing.
If you fancy giving it a go, meeting some friendly people and having a good sing then do come along. We meet at the Bristol Folk House in the Hall on Tuesday evenings (term time) from 7.45-9.45pm. You’re welcome to just turn up but please check rehearsal dates on the website first!
Bristol Folk Singers – run by Matt Norman
The Bristol Folk Singers are a friendly new group coming together to sing English Folk Songs in traditional harmony. We sing for the joy of singing but will also perform formally at concerts and informally in pubs.
To join this group of singers you don’t need to audition and you don’t need to be able to read music. All songs are taught by ear with music provided.
We rehearse on Monday evenings at St Michaels and all Angels, 160a Gloucester Road, Bristol, BS7 8NT, however there is a waiting list for new members so please get in touch first if you’d like to join!
Bath Folk Singers – run by Matt Norman
Matt’s ‘other’ folk choir! We’re just like the Bristol Folk Singers, but we rehearse on Wednesday evenings from 7.30-9.30pm at New Oriel Hall, Brookleaze Buildings, Bath, BA1 6RA. £8 per session or £30 for 5 week half term.
Brigstowe Village Band – Musical Director Alison Rowley
We are modelled on the village bands of Thomas Hardy’s day when local musicians played for all the local gatherings and celebrations. We play lively upbeat traditional tunes of the British Isles and include songs, words and dances to reflect the origins of the music. We perform at events such as fairs, street parties, harvest festivals and concerts.
The band is run as cooperatively as possible with members taking on organisational roles. Alison Rowley arranges most of our music and leads monthly rehearsals.
Rehearsals take place once a month on Sunday afternoons at Long Ashton Community Centre. We are a friendly and inclusive group welcoming all acoustic instruments, there are no auditions and music is provided online – reading music is an advantage but some members play by ear.
